Dr. Carmel Bitondo Dyer is a nationally renowned geriatrician leader who has served as a clinician, researcher, educator, and administrator for the last 25 years. Dr. Dyer is board certified in Geriatric Medicine and has received national and local recognition for clinical program building, teaching ability, research inroads, and dedication to the health care of older persons.
Over her career, Dr. Dyer has successfully established 20 clinical programs in multiple health systems. This unique blend of expertise in clinical, administrative, and legislative areas, along with her educational and research capabilities, have brought her to design an innovative model of care that will transform the way geriatric healthcare is delivered. This model will prove a disruption for the current healthcare industry as it strives to increase quality of care while lowering costs. Dr. Dyer seeks to implement, refine and ultimately disseminate this new tier of senior care.
Tammy Mermelstein
Joining Dr. Carmel Dyer
Tammy Mermelstein has dedicated her career to empowering others. She is currently working with the University of Houston-Downtown to create the Collaboratory for Aging Resources and Education. Previously, at Care for Elders, Tammy was lead author on A Spotlight on Aging, a data report on Harris County’s older adults and the Senior Guidance Directory, an information and resource guide and developed interactive presentations for professionals, older adults, and caregivers.
She currently is serving on the Texas Health and Human Services Commission’s Aging Texas Well Advisory Committee, Houston Gerontological Society Board, the Region 6 Adult Protective Services Board, and the Harris County Foster Grandparent Advisory Council. Tammy has also guest lectured in university and graduate classes and contributed to an undergraduate social work textbook.
Prior to joining Care for Elders, she developed award-winning career and financial education programs. Tammy earned her Master’s in Social Work and Certificate in Non-Profit Management from Georgia State University, her law degree from the University of Miami, and her Bachelor of Arts degree from Stephen F. Austin State University.
A one hour CE will be offered to nurses and social workers. H.I.S.
